25th Anniversary "Holidays with God"

A beautiful vacation doesn't necessarily mean exotic locations, luxurious surroundings, or exquisite cuisine. We discovered this when we organized "Vacation with God"—and above all, with others—which are incredibly popular today. It all began simply... with a great longing for adventure, which for us, the vacation oases organized by the Light-Life Movement represented. Raised in communist Poland, we appreciated the values these trips brought to our adult lives. We dreamed that our children, born and raised in the United States, could experience the same.
These dreams began to be realized by Redemptorist Father Waldemar Łątkowski, who first served in Perth Amboy, NJ, and now in Chicago, IL. It was he who, in July 2007, organized the first trip to Lake George, New York. The theme was the Seven Sacraments , and 56 people, including Father Łątkowski, participated. They spent a week in a picturesque natural setting. Father Waldemar had a vision and knew what he wanted to convey to families—and the participants trusted him.
Each day began with the Eucharist – not traditionally in church, but in the spirit of pilgrimage. We joyfully discovered what baptism means to us, what the sacrament of reconciliation offers, and the young people preparing for confirmation were able to understand its meaning even better. Morning activities in the age groups flew by. Afternoons were a time for relaxation – beach time, mountain hikes, and evening activities: an evening of humor, a disco, prayer, devotion, and finally, a religious performance summarizing the week's theme.

The first camp was a huge success – we said goodbye with tears and hope that we would meet again next year. Father Waldemar didn't disappoint. The following year, he organized two camps: again in Lake George and in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Despite his responsibilities as a parish priest, he managed to balance pastoral ministry with organizing the trips – and the number of participants grew.
Each year we tackled a new theme: the 10 Commandments, the Eight Beatitudes, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the Eucharist, the "Our Father," the Principal Truths of Faith, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Vocation (priesthood and marriage), the 7 Deadly Sins, the Mysteries of the Rosary, and the Holy Scriptures. There was God the Father, the Son of God, the Holy Spirit, Mary, and St. Joseph. In 2024, the motto was: "I Wait for You in the Eucharist . " The 25th Jubilee Camp in the Jubilee Year was held under the motto: "Pilgrims of Hope – Light of the World . " Coincidence? Probably not. It's the need for closeness with others.
While in Lancaster, PA, from June 29th to July 5th, we had the opportunity to discuss the Sacraments of Christian Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. A key part of our week-long stay was the Stations of the Cross with the Eucharist, which led us to Golgotha (as we called the Hill of Three Crosses). The Eucharist we attended was a fulfillment, and the gloomy sky surrounding us made us even more aware of what was happening. At the conclusion, everyone had the opportunity to make a decision and inscribe their name on the cross, declaring themselves a pilgrim and setting out on their life's journey. This is just a fragment of our week-long program this year.
The only requirement for participation was a week without phones—no electronics, but with a heart for others. Over the past 18 years, 2,520 people have participated. For several years now, we have been accompanied by the Sister Servants, and since Father has been serving in Chicago, the Benedictine Sisters have also joined us. Currently, "Vacation with God" takes place in early June in Wisconsin (for participants from Chicago and the surrounding area) and two weeks later in Lancaster, PA, for those from the East Coast.

I've been involved with this project from the beginning, along with my entire family. My daughters, now adults, like many other participants, say that "Holidays with God" was the most beautiful thing that happened to them as children. Lifelong friendships were forged there, and they experienced closeness to God—something hard to find in a regular catechesis class, especially one conducted in English. Parents often don't recognize their children upon their return—something has changed within them. Something has touched their hearts, leaving a mark. Most eagerly await the next year, humming religious songs like "Everyone Can Be a Saint" and many others. The adults, on the other hand, experience their week-long retreats with a very practical message.
Over these 18 years, we have met exceptional people: Archbishop Wacław Depo, Bishop David L. Ricken, numerous Redemptorists from the Warsaw Province and the Metuchen Diocese, as well as members of the vocations departments who led catechesis in English. Father Waldemar has been accompanied on the East Coast for years by Salesian Father Paweł Dziatkiewicz – with missionary experience in Africa and currently a chaplain at the Woodbridge Retirement Home in Woodbridge, NJ. Many people dedicate their time to leading morning classes and then participate in Father Waldemar's adult catechesis in the afternoon.

I could go on and on, but the most important thing is this: each of us is rediscovering our relationship with God . We are able to break away from screens and marvel at the beauty of nature. We visited Lake George, Londonderry (VT), the Poconos, Lancaster (PA), Green Lake, and Spencer Lake (WI). The landscapes stayed with us, the priest's words in our hearts, and the relationships we share created a vacation family where everyone is close. The "silent friend" we draw on the first day often becomes a lifelong friend.
Father Waldemar isn't holding back. He announced that next year will be the Year of St. Gerard , and the motto is: "Doing God's Will . " A whole year of preparations lies ahead – logos, posters, T-shirts, materials, and formation meetings for caregivers.
From the perspective of 18 years and 25 camps, I know one thing: it's worth it. The work Father Waldemar Łątkowski began in 2007 is unique in America. God blesses it – even despite the difficulties. This camp, organized during the pandemic – despite the restrictions in place – was proof of this.

I have been associated with this work from the beginning - with all my family. My daughters, today adult women, like many other participants, say that "holidays with God" are the most beautiful, which happened to them in childhood. There were friendly for life, there they experienced the closeness of God - which is difficult to look for in ordinary catechesis, especially conducted in English. Parents often do not meet their children after returning - something has changed in them. Something touched their heart, a trail remained. Most of them are eagerly waiting for the next year, humming religious songs: "Everyone can be saint" and many others. Adults, however, experience their weekly retreat - with a very practical message.
During these 18 years we met exceptional people: Archbishop Wacław Depo, Bishop David L. Ricken, numerous Redemptorists from the Warsaw Province and Diocese of Metuchen, as well as people from vocations who conducted catechesis in English. Father Waldemar on the east coast has been accompanied by a Salesian, Fr. Paweł Dziatkiewicz - with missionary experience in Africa, currently a chaplain at a quiet old age in Woodbridge (NJ). Many people devote their time to conducting morning classes to participate in catechesis for adults led by Father Waldemar in the afternoon.

You could write for a long time, but the most important thing is: each of us discovers our relationship with God again . We can break away from the screens and admire the beauty of nature. We were in Lake George, Londonderry (VT), Poconos, Lancaster (PA), Green Lake and Spencer Lake (WI). The landscapes remained in the eyes of the priest's words in the heart, and relations with other people created a holiday family in which everyone is close to each other. "Silent friend", whom we draw on the first day, often becomes a friend for life.
Father Waldemar does not stop. He announced that next year would be the year of St. Gerard , and the slogan is: "to fulfill God's will . " Ahead of us a whole year of preparation - logo, posters, t -shirts, materials, formation meetings for guardians.
From the perspective of 18 years and 25 camps, I know one thing - it's worth it. The work that Father Waldemar Łątkowski initiated in 2007 is unique on American land. God blesses them - even despite the difficulties. This was evidenced by the Camp organized during the Pandemia - despite the current restrictions.

A beautiful vacation is not necessarily exotic places, luxurious conditions or excellent kitchen. We found out about this by organizing "Holidays with God" - and above all with other people - which today are very popular. It all just started ... out of great longing for the adventure, which was the holiday oases organized by the Light -Life Movement. Raised in communist Poland, we appreciated the values that these trips brought to our adult life. We dreamed that children born and raised in the United States could experience the same.
These dreams were started by Redemptorist Father Waldemar Łątkowski, who first served in Perth Amboy (NJ) and now in Chicago (IL). It was him, in July 2007, that organized his first trip to Lake George, New York. The subject was 7 sacraments , and 56 people took part with the father. They spent a week in a picturesque environment of nature. Father Waldemar had a vision and knew what he wanted to convey to his families - and the participants trusted him.
We started each day with the Eucharist - not traditionally in the church, but in a pilgrimage spirit. We were happy to discover what baptism is to us, which gives the sacrament of reconciliation, and young people preparing for confirmation could get to know its meaning even better. Morning classes in age groups passed very quickly. Afternoons are a time of rest - sunbathing, mountain hiking, and in the evenings attractions: a evening of humor, a disco, prayer, entrusting, and finally a religious performance summarizing the topic of the week.

The first camp was a huge success - tears and hope that we would meet in a year appeared saying goodbye. Father Waldemar did not disappoint. He organized two Camps next year: again in Lake George and Poconos, Pennsylvania. Despite the duties of the priest, he was able to reconcile pastoral care with the organization of trips - and there were more people.
Every year we took up a new topic: 10 commandments, eight blessings, gifts of the Holy Spirit, Eucharist, prayer "Our Father", the main truths of faith, the sacrament of reconciliation, calling (priesthood and marriage), 7 main sins, secrets of the rosary, the Holy Bible. There was God the Father, Son of God, Holy Spirit, Mary and Saint. Józef. In 2024, the slogan was: "I am waiting for you in the Eucharist . " Jubilee 25. Camp in the jubilee year took place under the slogan: "Pilgrims of hope - the light of the world" . Coincidence? Rather not. This is needed by closeness with other people.
While in Lancaster in PA from June 29 to July 5, we had the opportunity to talk about the sacraments of Christian initiation: baptism, confirmation and the Eucharist. A very important point of our weekly stay was the Way of the Cross with the Eucharist, which led us to Golgotha (that's what we called the Three Cross Hill). The Eucharist in which we participated was a complement, and the sad sky surrounding us made even more aware of what is done. At the end, everyone could make a decision and enter their name in the arms of the cross to declare that he is a pilgrim and sets out on the trail of his life journey. This is just a fragment of our weekly program this year.
The condition for participation was: a week without telephones - without electronics with a heart for others. 2520 people took part for 18 years. For several years, we have been accompanied by servants, and since the father serves in Chicago - also Benedictine sisters. Currently, "Holidays with God" take place at the beginning of June in Wisconsin (for participants from Chicago and the surrounding area) and two weeks later in Lancaster (PA) for those from the east coast.

Marzyliśmy, by tego samego mogły doświadczyć dzieci urodzone i wychowane w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
These dreams were started by Redemptorist Father Waldemar Łątkowski, who first served in Perth Amboy (NJ) and now in Chicago (IL). It was him, in July 2007, that organized his first trip to Lake George, New York. Tematem było 7 Sakramentów , a razem z ojcem udział wzięło 56 osób. Spędzili tydzień w malowniczym otoczeniu przyrody. Father Waldemar had a vision and knew what he wanted to convey to his families - and the participants trusted him.
We started each day with the Eucharist - not traditionally in the church, but in a pilgrimage spirit. Morning classes in age groups passed very quickly. Popołudnia to czas odpoczynku – plażowanie, górskie wędrówki, a wieczorami atrakcje: wieczór humoru, dyskoteka, modlitwa, zawierzenie, a na koniec religijne przedstawienie podsumowujące temat tygodnia.

Father Waldemar did not disappoint. Despite the duties of the priest, he was able to reconcile pastoral care with the organization of trips - and there were more people.
Każdego roku podejmowaliśmy nowy temat: 10 Przykazań, Osiem Błogosławieństw, Dary Ducha Świętego, Eucharystia, Modlitwa „Ojcze Nasz”, Główne Prawdy Wiary, Sakrament Pojednania, Powołanie (kapłaństwo i małżeństwo), 7 grzechów głównych, Tajemnice Różańca, Pismo Święte. To potrzeba bliskości z drugim człowiekiem.
While in Lancaster in PA from June 29 to July 5, we had the opportunity to talk about the sacraments of Christian initiation: baptism, confirmation and the Eucharist.

There were friendly for life, there they experienced the closeness of God - which is difficult to look for in ordinary catechesis, especially conducted in English.
We can break away from the screens and admire the beauty of nature. Byliśmy w Lake George, Londonderry (VT), Poconos, Lancaster (PA), Green Lake i Spencer Lake (WI). Krajobrazy pozostały w oczach, słowa kapłana w sercu, a relacje z drugim człowiekiem stworzyły wakacyjną rodzinę , w której wszyscy są sobie bliscy. „Cichy przyjaciel”, którego losujemy pierwszego dnia, często zostaje przyjacielem na całe życie.
Father Waldemar does not stop. Zapowiedział, że przyszły rok będzie Rokiem św. Gerarda , a hasło brzmi: „Pełnić wolę Boga” . Przed nami cały rok przygotowań – logo, plakaty, koszulki, materiały, spotkania formacyjne dla opiekunów.
Z perspektywy 18 lat i 25 campów wiem jedno – warto. The work that Father Waldemar Łątkowski initiated in 2007 is unique on American land.

There were friendly for life, there they experienced the closeness of God - which is difficult to look for in ordinary catechesis, especially conducted in English.
Paweł Dziatkiewicz – z doświadczeniem misyjnym w Afryce, obecnie kapelan w Domu Spokojnej Starości w Woodbridge (NJ). Many people devote their time to conducting morning classes to participate in catechesis for adults led by Father Waldemar in the afternoon.

We can break away from the screens and admire the beauty of nature. Byliśmy w Lake George, Londonderry (VT), Poconos, Lancaster (PA), Green Lake i Spencer Lake (WI). Krajobrazy pozostały w oczach, słowa kapłana w sercu, a relacje z drugim człowiekiem stworzyły wakacyjną rodzinę , w której wszyscy są sobie bliscy. „Cichy przyjaciel”, którego losujemy pierwszego dnia, często zostaje przyjacielem na całe życie.
Father Waldemar does not stop. Zapowiedział, że przyszły rok będzie Rokiem św. Gerarda , a hasło brzmi: „Pełnić wolę Boga” . Przed nami cały rok przygotowań – logo, plakaty, koszulki, materiały, spotkania formacyjne dla opiekunów.
Z perspektywy 18 lat i 25 campów wiem jedno – warto. The work that Father Waldemar Łątkowski initiated in 2007 is unique on American land.

Krajobrazy pozostały w oczach, słowa kapłana w sercu, a relacje z drugim człowiekiem stworzyły wakacyjną rodzinę , w której wszyscy są sobie bliscy. „Cichy przyjaciel”, którego losujemy pierwszego dnia, często zostaje przyjacielem na całe życie.
Father Waldemar does not stop. Zapowiedział, że przyszły rok będzie Rokiem św. Gerarda , a hasło brzmi: „Pełnić wolę Boga” . Przed nami cały rok przygotowań – logo, plakaty, koszulki, materiały, spotkania formacyjne dla opiekunów.
Z perspektywy 18 lat i 25 campów wiem jedno – warto. The work that Father Waldemar Łątkowski initiated in 2007 is unique on American land.

There were friendly for life, there they experienced the closeness of God - which is difficult to look for in ordinary catechesis, especially conducted in English.

There were friendly for life, there they experienced the closeness of God - which is difficult to look for in ordinary catechesis, especially conducted in English.
Paweł Dziatkiewicz – z doświadczeniem misyjnym w Afryce, obecnie kapelan w Domu Spokojnej Starości w Woodbridge (NJ). Many people devote their time to conducting morning classes to participate in catechesis for adults led by Father Waldemar in the afternoon.

We can break away from the screens and admire the beauty of nature. Byliśmy w Lake George, Londonderry (VT), Poconos, Lancaster (PA), Green Lake i Spencer Lake (WI). Krajobrazy pozostały w oczach, słowa kapłana w sercu, a relacje z drugim człowiekiem stworzyły wakacyjną rodzinę , w której wszyscy są sobie bliscy. „Cichy przyjaciel”, którego losujemy pierwszego dnia, często zostaje przyjacielem na całe życie.
Father Waldemar does not stop. Zapowiedział, że przyszły rok będzie Rokiem św. Gerarda , a hasło brzmi: „Pełnić wolę Boga” . Przed nami cały rok przygotowań – logo, plakaty, koszulki, materiały, spotkania formacyjne dla opiekunów.
Z perspektywy 18 lat i 25 campów wiem jedno – warto. The work that Father Waldemar Łątkowski initiated in 2007 is unique on American land.
